Frequently Asked Questions
What does it cost for my child(ren) to play?
The fee for upcoming Season is $65 for Kindergarten players and $150 for 1st-6th Graders. There is also a mandatory fundraising fee of $50/family that is recoverable by selling 5 fundraising tickets. The maximum out of pocket cost, including the fundraising fee, is $250 per family.
What will I need to purchase for my player?
The organization will provide a helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey, and personalized game jersey. All organization owned equipment must be returned at the end of the season except the game jersey which is yours to keep. You will be responsible for purchasing a pair of black integrated football pants, cleats(shoes), protective cup, and mouthpiece.
Can my child switch to a different team this year?
GCYFL rules dictate that any player switching teams from one year to the next MUST obtain League approval. Please note that the league will only allow ONE move in between teams during the duration of his youth playing years.
I don't live in the district. Can my child play for the Little Highlanders?
The GCYFL has moved to a district based league meaning that, to be considered "in-district", your child MUST live in OR go to school inside district boundaries. Please note that proof of residency will be required. Players rostered in the 2020 season *might* be allowed to continue uninterrupted.
My child is new to football, can I choose which Coach/Team to sign him/her up with?
While football techniques and skills are taught similarly on every team, every child is different. We have an obligation to your new player to place him/her on a team that provides the best opportunity to learn fundamental football and succeed. While we will do our best to accommodate a team request, we cannot guarantee that is where your child will be placed due to team sizes & dynamics. When attending an in-person sign up, we will talk with you and your child regarding individual team demands/expectations to ensure we get the right fit for his/her overall development. The dates and locations for in-person signups can be found on the home page under the "Events" tab.
When does the season start?
Practice starts the second week of July. The regular season generally starts mid-August and ends in mid-late October. There are a few Bowl games that teams may participate in before or after the season. Most teams practice 2-3 days a week and games will take place on either Saturday or Sunday.
Do I have to volunteer for anything?
Yes, volunteering is required and will consist of working a few shifts at our gates collecting admission, working at our concession stand, or other jobs that may need to be filled. We are a volunteer run organization and count on the support of ALL of our parents to pitch in and help. If you are interested in getting involved on a deeper level, let your Head Coach or Team Mom know or contact us via email.
